STATION IMPROVEMENTS PACKAGE 2

The Design Build Services For LIRR Station Improvements Package 2 will reshape the future of three crucial LIRR Stations: Babylon, the Historic Forest Hills and Hollis. Beyond the implementation of the state-of-the-art Automated Snow and Ice Melting System on station platforms, the project also incorporates improvements in infrastructure, ADA accessibility, and amenities.

  • Scope of Work:

    • Reconstruction and rehabilitation of three LIRR Stations: Babylon, Forest Hills and Hollis

    • Demolition and disposal where necessary at the three stations, including abatement, removal, and disposal of hazardous material, including asbestos-containing materials (“ACM”) and lead-based paint

    • Installing ADA compliant elevators and escalators

    • Establishing ADA accessible paths of travel and site and sidewalk improvements

    • New platforms, repairs and upgrades

    • New structural foundations and superstructure elements

    • Installation of heated platforms - Automated Snow and Ice Melting Systems (“ASIMS”)

    • Architectural improvements

    • Electrical and mechanical upgrades to fire alarm systems, lighting and  signage

    • State-of-Good Repair work improvements 

    • Babylon Station reconstruction incorporates the installation of two new ADA compliant elevators, rehabilitating two existing elevators, replacing two existing escalators, and full platform and canopy replacements

    • Forest Hills Station work incorporates the installation of ADA ramps, ADA accessible paths of travel, and platform replacements/extensions while preserving its historical features

    • Hollis Station rehabilitation work incorporates a new ADA elevator, an ADA ramp, modifications to the existing pedestrian tunnel, demolition of the existing platforms, reconstruction of new platforms, canopies, and building supports
