Celebrating a Milestone: Forte Construction’s Progress on the Long Island Rail Road Station Improvements

We are thrilled to share an exciting update on the Design-Build Services for Long Island Rail Road Station Improvements Package II, spearheaded by Forte Construction. Recently, we celebrated a major milestone in this project with a special event attended by executives from the MTA and Forte Construction, along with members of the press. This groundbreaking ceremony marked a significant step forward in our efforts to enhance the station’s infrastructure. A key point of pride for us is that the Babylon station will remain ADA-compliant throughout the entire construction process, ensuring uninterrupted accessibility for all passengers.

The Babylon station, originally built in 1964, is undergoing extensive upgrades to modernize its infrastructure. These improvements include the installation of two new ADA-compliant elevators and replacements for two existing elevators and escalators. Additionally, there will be full canopy and platform replacements, featuring Automatic Snow and Ice Melting Systems (ASIMS).

One of the most significant challenges of this project is constructing the middle island platforms while trains are in service. Our team has developed innovative methods to remove cast-in-place concrete canopies and platforms adjacent to operational trains. The elevated platform poses additional challenges for removing and installing the new precast ASIMS integrated platforms, which weigh up to 31,000 pounds each.

As we continue to make strides in this project, we remain committed to delivering a modern, accessible, and efficient station for the Babylon community.
