We are thrilled to announce the early opening of Elevator 334 at the West 4th Street Station in Manhattan! This marks the second elevator to be completed under the MTA Design-Build Services project for replacing 19 elevators across various stations in Manhattan and Queens, opening TWO months ahead of schedule!
This milestone follows the successful opening of Elevator 142 at 125th Street Station in November 2024. We are very proud of the progress made and our project team for their dedication and hard work achieving this remarkable accomplishment.
The Design-Build project is a comprehensive initiative aimed at modernizing and improving the reliability of our communities’ subway elevators. The work includes the replacement of all existing equipment within each elevator machine room with new, state-of-the-art equipment. Additionally, modifications to the elevator hoistways, leveling of uneven floor surfaces, and other necessary work are being performed to ensure the new elevators meet current ADA standards, providing an ADA-compliant path of travel to each elevator. The project also involves state-of-good repair work, such as the removal of graffiti, repairs to structural elements and finishes, and remediation of water damage near the new elevators, within the elevator hoistways, and the elevator machine rooms. Furthermore, enhancements to existing communication systems, including CCTV cameras, fire alarm systems, and intercoms, along with new communication screens within the elevator cabs for customer assistance, are being implemented.
Elevator 334 is now operational, providing a reliable and accessible means of transportation for our passengers. This new elevator is equipped with the latest technology and safety features, ensuring a smooth and secure ride for all users. The opening of Elevator 334 marks a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to improve the accessibility and reliability of our transit system. We are committed to maintaining these new elevators through a long-term maintenance contract, ensuring they remain in optimal condition for years to come.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to make progress on this important project!
